  Not to quibble a semantic point in a work of fiction, but eating the forbidden fruit made man "like a god" per YHWH himself, and man only had to eat of Tree of Life to continue existence, making fait accompli (God prevented that with flaming sword/cherub).

  But point is, they we told they had to eat magic fruit (athough serpent did not mention the OTHER 2nd fruit) , and JWs are told they have to do whatever GB says; the sales pitch is fundamentally the same....

  Oh, it WAS a seductive message: "the Truth that leads to ETERNAL life".... Wouldn't THAT be nice?

  But ever notice how it's sounds a bit familiar, as if maybe you've heard it before, but can't remember exactly where?

  "Your eyes will be opened to become wise like a God (ie able to discern truth); you surely will NOT die!" The WTBTS has simply rephrased the serpent's sales pitch, as delivered to Eve, wherein he promised truth AND immortality (everlasting life).

  Same bait used, just slightly reworded! Why change a sales pitch if it works, right?

  Fortunately though, you see it's all nonsense.... There is no such thing to be had, no talking snakes, no magic fruit, no fountains of eternal youth. Don't waste the life you DO have in the here and now, TODAY, in hopes of winning a religious jackpot that just isn't, and never was, real. A bird in the hand, as the old saying goes, is worth an infinite quality that are imaginary, but in some fantasy Tree of Life.

  Such policies are absolute proof that 7 males should NOT be allowed to write guidelines without seeking the input of a women. I know, it'll never happen....

  But do you know what the ULTIMATE IRONY is, in all of this?

  This body of 7 males who clearly are insightful and in touch with their inner feminine side wants YOU to think of them as your "mother" i.e. as females.

  Now you go over there and give Your Momma a big hug!!

  Rydor pointed out this scripture:

  The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had iron chariots. (Judges 1:19)

  Hey, man, what do you want? YHWH SAID they had iron chariots! That was like saying they had F-22 Raptors, back in those days.... Maybe iron is like God's Kryptonite? :)

  My fave story is the Flood, which I think of as "Armageddon, Take One".

  So God is agitated with man, due to "evil in their hearts" (see pg 1), so regrets making mankind ('regret' being a surprise emotion, that is inconsistent with knowing future events, as an omniscient being; but I digress). So God decides to WIPE OUT mankind and does so, killing innocent babies and animals in the process. One year later, God flip-flops, regretting wiping out mankind, SO He created a rainbow as His promise to NEVER, EVER, do it again (as opposed to just showing one of the fruitages of His own spirit: self-control!). Granted, many cultures have myths to explain what rainbows are and where they come from, but FEW demand killing off entire populations of Planets in order to tell the story!

  So God did ALL of that to eliminate the problem of "evil in man's heart", wiping out all of mankind, except for 8 (whom God presumably checked beforehand to confirm they were non-carriers of the 'evil in their hearts' problem), but what do we have on Earth, immediately after the Flood? Men, with evil in their hearts, on the next page.

  Fail much, God?

  Not that it matters: it's a silly ancient myth inspired by Mesopotamia's older Epic of Gilgamesh story....

  i have been trying to wrap my head around the talk that introduced the slave as our mother?

  the brothers at bethel are worried that we are not treating our spiritual mother with respect.

  jehovah is our father, the faithful slave (the governing body) is our spiritual mammy.

  How Did You Handle Hatfields and Mccoys style Witnesses? Pure Hatred?

  did any of you sisters or brothers ever help life long witness hatred disperse?

  i know the five sisters who have not spoken in twenty five years, it's odd to see them give parts on circuit assemblies, or district assemblies knowing the dark hate that exist inside them.

  these parts helped me realize that the organization is impotent in reigning in hatred with the rank and file.

  i'm a big science nerd and i remember when we were going over the creator book, that the big bang doesn't necessarily prove there is no god.. i said this comment during book study and the conductor's jaw dropped.

  everyone was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't help that he ct me off as i was explaining the red shift and mom wasn't too happy about all that.

  i had to do a lot of bible research and write some nonsense about how the big bang was not reality or some sort...ugh.. .

  lol oh fish on fridays that might just sweeten the deal. Did your sorces mention anything about tartare sause being available?

  Cancel that! The ideas off.... Someone at Bethel researched the suggestion, but ruled it to be "pagan". It seems Catholics have been doing Fish on Fridays for centuries now... Whod'a thunk?

  So the idea now is "Tartar Tuesdays", where everyone eats a nice bowl of tartar sauce (no fish, tho: remember, "pagan") for the main course. Does that work for you?

  it seems like lately we have been missing out on a lot of invites to congregation gatherings and our field service group has gatherings but we never seem to get invited.

  It's amazing that the WTBTS has successfully transformed the most contrite and vacuous forms of social interaction (such as gossiping, forming cliques, rumors) into required activities! That's one way to deal with a gossip: promote their gossiping! They managed to invert, to flip-flop their placement on the respectibility scale, even DEMANDING that one engage in such to participate in the group! Talk about "up is down", "black is white" thinking!

  Funny about announcing open season for shunning, where all the JWs simultaneously set their Shun Guns™ to "Ignore". FIRE AT WILL!!

  Clarity,

  All acts of Xian charity carry that little cloud of taint, as being required by Jesus and not performed simply out of the kindness of one's heart, but out of fear of punishment (if they don't) or promise of reward (if they do). It truly devalues the value of such acts of "charity".
